The Role
My placement with Lloyds has gone far beyond my expectations. I've had so much more responsibility than I imagined I would have. I've got involved in loads of projects within my team and beyond. I even had a day in branch behind the counters! LBG was really supportive with everything I've wanted to try this summer & the other interns have all been lovely too.
I've felt really valued here. Because I have had real responsibility, I've had to interact with colleagues not only in my team but also outside of my team in the wider business. In an organisation of over 80,000 people I've still been made to feel valued by all of the people I met, and by the business as a whole. My team has a special 'thank you' Email round and I've been featured in there a couple of times, which gives a nice buzz.
My line manager has been really supportive, acting as both line manager and mentor. I've also had a great task-manager who I could go to for any problems relating to my major project, which was the production of a webinar for apprentices. The whole team has felt very supportive though, I can ask anyone if I have questions.
I've been kept very busy over the duration over the duration of my internship, with a project to work on and also lots of little pieces of work day-to-day. This means I've experienced a variety of areas of the business as well as having one big project to get stuck into and keep me occupied.
A member of my team had just left, so my internship was a perfect 8-week role-fill followed by a two-week handover to the new member of the team, which meant that my skills were really stretched in every direction. I worked with both internal and external teams as well, which meant I was responsible for building the relationship between LBG and a variety of companies.
I study Management at university, so this has been a great hands-on version of my degree programme, which means that I've developed lots of the base skills I have from university. I would say actually that I've learnt so many practical skills in this internship that will build my skills in my degree programme moving forwards.
The Company
Really lively and friendly - even with the people who sit around my team. I've had the opportunity to chat also to senior managers in other areas of the business, one of whom has now become my mentor. We'd have a laugh and we all went for a drink pretty much weekly and for a meal at the end of my placement.
The internship was really well organised, with me slotting straight into HR which was my business area. Although leading up to my internship I felt very unsure of what to expect, once I was here I dived straight into a project with a supportive and approachable team and responsibility which is exactly what you want from an internship.
The firm really invested in me. LBG paid for my train travel down to London and Birmingham for a number of stretching and great learning experiences, which really added value to the placement for me. Without the opportunity to see different bases and parts of the business, I wouldn't have had the same development that I have received.

Great. The referral process here is based on an interview with your line manager, who you have worked with for 10 weeks which means that you already have a great relationship with the person who will refer you to the graduate programme. The referral process wasn't all well communicated but it worked in the end.
The Culture
Interns all had our own whatsapp group and went out loads. This wasn't forced on us by LBG, but we did have a charity challenge team which meant that interns who lived at home (Like me) had an opportunity to mix with interns outside of our own teams, an opportunity we may have missed otherwise.
Leeds is relatively inexpensive compared to many other locations, although lots of interns are based in London. The cost of socialising varies across the country, and interns at LBG can be based at many locations, although these focus around their main hubs in London, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Leeds and Cardiff.
Great. Leeds nightlife is really fun and varied. Although you probably shouldn't choose a company based on the nightlife in one location, as the grad scheme requires you to move around the country and there's a lot of placements for example Edinburgh, London which will be more expensive.
There has been loads of opportunities to get involved, as all the interns are provided accommodation in the same place close to where the internship takes place. This means there's a really supportive network of people who you can rely on and get involved with outside of work.
