The Role
I was given plenty of responsibility from the very first day, and allowed to get on with projects. I was also included in office and team activities, and was provided with challenging work. My placement involved several trips to Scotland.
My colleagues seemed to trust me to get on with my work without needing to regularly check up on me. I was also given extra responsibilities and provided with all the support I needed.
The Digital team organised a number of events for interns, and my team (although small) made every effort to make me feel included. My manager made time to sit down with me and discuss progress each week.
Some days were busier than others, though the depended largely on my ability to manage my own time. On quieter days, I would often ask for extra work or offer to help with exisiting projects.
I was given a project to work on from beginning to end, which will end up being seen by a large audience of colleagues. I was given scope to shape and drive the delivery of these projects based on what I thought would work best.
I have developed and learned a number of important transferable skills, including project delivery and stakeholder management. These will give me a significant headstart when it comes to graduate jobs.
The Company
My office was very relaxed and was reasonably quiet seeing as it was holiday season. I arrived early enough each day to secure a desk but there were days when space was limited. There were table tennis tables and vending machines, and plenty of breakout areas.
The Digital intern team had clearly made a significant effort to develop rewarding and enjoyable placements. There was some confusion around the referral process, as this was communication in bits and pieces only towards the end of the placement.
Much of my learning was on the job, but there were webinars and training opportunities available for those who chose to make use of them. I also made use of exisiting training materials for colleagues.

The internship acts as a referral period for the graduate scheme, and as such there is a possibility to secure a place on this at the end of the placement. The Digital graduate stream is new this year.
The Culture
Interns in Digital met frequently and I got on with pretty much everyone. There were frequent lunch/drinks opportunities organised outside of working hours, and I was always having conversations with others in the office,
London is expensive! Eating and drinking in the City is not cheap -- but it is nice to pop out for lunch or drinks after work. It is affordable as a treat if you are halfway decent at budgeting. Tube fare to work is £4.60 each day.
Decent nightlife, but not in the immediate vicinity of the City. Plenty of pubs and bars but these are expensive and any of the cheaper clubs are located further out in Zones 4-6. Depends what you're after.
There are plenty of events and activities organised by the company, and this is particularly true in Digital -- this included an Sports day and month end drinks. Interns also organised events among themselves, including charity challenge events.
