The Role
The internship gave an in depth overview of the investment banking business and good insight to the HSBC culture
I was treated like a full-time analyst and my work was benchmarked accordingly
The team was extremely approachable and always ready to answer questions, offering indispensible support throughout the 10-week internship
Although the internship was in summer, the hours were relatively long and I was required to come in almost every weekend
The same level on responsibility as a starting analyst, often running the bookbuilding and most of the analytical inputs
The inital training was lackluster and concentarted mostly on soft skills, but it was compensated by the work at the desk, where I learned most of the finance related skills such as modelling and technical skills
The Company
The general environment is friendly and people tend to be supportive and outgoing
Internship was structured well with weekly lunch and learn session, supplemented by senior speakers' events and ad hoc out of the office session such as dragonboating and CSR projects
The firm provided all the necessary means to develop
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
HSBC has a graduate rotational graduate scheme in investment banking division, which enables to two desk rotations of which one can be international in their overseas offices
The Culture
The 2015 intern cohort was very socialable organizing number of social events throughout
Living in near Canary Wharf area, London, is not the cheapest option, but the internship was well compensated with additional accommodation allowance enabling to find affordable housing for the summer
-
Although the company runs number of initiatives and there is a sizable corporate gym, the desk work took majority of my free time and did not have time to seek for activities outside work
