    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I think that there were positive aspects about the job, dealing with people on the phone however my role as Sales Co-Ordinator changed near the end of my placement when they decided to get rid of the order management dept. and have the interns do their jobs as well (2 roles, twice the work load). It became more admin focussed, with a tedious process on a long winded system. With that said though, the working environment is enjoyable due to the young atmosphere in the office - the people definitely made the placement, and the job did provide good work experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The interns all hang out with each other in and outside of work, very sociable at the weekends and even some of the managers are involved on nights out and spend lunch times together - I think this is due to a number of them still being in their 20's so the lack of age gap helps!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was great, but it really is luck of the draw who you get - some are very strong while others need baby sitting.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Again, depending on who your manager is the work load will be different - if you have a busy manager bringing in a lot of sales you will have a lot of work to do. If you have a weaker manager you will also have a lot to do since some dont even know their way around the system after years of working here. Then there are others who are strong and try to do everything leaving their intern to have an easier life!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had a lot of freedom in my role, I had my own clients and had the opportunity to pitch ideas and be creative. Our roles involved taking an order from the very start (coming up with ideas and quoting) to the very end - making sure the client receives their goods on time.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained valuable experience, I can sell very well now over the phone and in person. I went to meetings with major companies and my confidence as a person has definitely improved. There is a lot of potential to get out of the placement but it does depend on what you put in.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was good because everyone got along and people did joke around sometimes, but there were times it wasn't good - particularly when sales were poor and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] managed to demotivate staff further and drove morale down.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The interview process was effective, and the day to day activities ran smoothly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training was poor, we spent a week in the meeting room being trained but [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who trained us didn't put much effort in and left the room regularly. This resulted in many mistakes when we eventually started work but over time people improved under their managers guidence

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although I enjoyed the placement and got a lot out of it, I have no desire to come back mainly due to the lack of prospects here and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] isn't someone I enjoyed working for.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • People spent time outside of work together and went out nearly every weekend. Fajita Fursdays was also awesome.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of food is high, the night life is also poor unless you have enough money to go out in London (which we dont since pay is terrible).

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3 clubs - Smokey Joes (bunch of old people), Phatz (full of kids, and a bit rough) Bar Soko - we found this near the end of the placement but enjoyed it.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We joined the gym
