The Role
From the beginning I was set to work as if I was a new graduate, not just an Intern. It was a great chance to experience what the graduate job would be like!
The vast majority of people I worked with were extremely friendly and I never felt a nuisance, even if I had to ask a few questions. This was even more important as I'd never done accountancy before, yet I felt like my work was useful.
I was given a lot of support by current graduates (E grades) which was extremely helpful as they had been in a similar position. I did spend a day shadowing a partner, but other than that had little contact with management.
It varied according to the job I was on but, most of the time there was work and I had things to do. I rarely was left just sitting without anything to do.
Despite never having done accountancy before I was shown the ropes and set to work speaking to clients and having access to their accounts. There was real responsibility from day 1.
The skills won't help much in my degree (as I do geography) but if I ever do go into accountancy It will no longer feel completely unknown. Saying this, most of the job involved working as part of a team, and so teamwork skills were greatly improved upon.
The Company
I was only in the office for 2 days, being on client sites for the rest. As a result the atmosphere was varied but almost entirely friendly and welcoming and made the job very enjoyable.
I had heard mixed reports prior to doing the internship, but found the internship well organised. I was placed on clients for most of the placement, ensuring I was kept busy.
A lot. Having never done accountancy work before I knew nothing and relies a lot upon fellow colleagues to teach me the ropes. I know a lot more about the process and can see how well kpmg treats its graduates and invests into them.

You are given a Partner interview at the end of the internship (depending upon performance, but nearly everybody gets one) and then have a very good chance of securing a graduate place.
The Culture
Yes, I met up with fellow interns and did a pub quiz with colleagues on various nights. Despite being busy everyone across the firm, at all levels, makes an effort to attend.
I lived at home during the internship.
Because I lived at home I didn't go properly out, but I know Bristol is a good place.
Yes, I wasn't there long but there are chances such as sports teams you can join.
