    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I must admit I enjoyed most of my internship. There were times when I felt pressured and stressed the workload was heavy but this has prepared me well for working life in the future. All in all I enjoyed it.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Being in a change function, which is always a typically impersonal environment I unusually felt as if my presence was valued. It's always hard to see people around who leave and no-one really notices or fusses too much but as I've not left yet, I suppose I'm about to find out!

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Although much more than I've had in previous internships, really not much support given because everyone very busy. I've taken this as a compliment that it was deemed that I could manage myself but in terms of available support, I wouldn't say 10.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Always lots to do and never sat on my own wishing I had things to do like some of my other friends who were doing internships around London. Should I never have stuff to do then I'd just ask for more and there would be no problem.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was surprised but I was given an extraordinary amount of responsibility and early on but I can imagine it's not for everyone and there was a lot of stress and anxiety over whether or not I'd get it right all the time.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I found the skills I learned invaluable, such as excel and project management. These have led me to feel more comfortable in thinking about how I go about selling myself in the future to an employer.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was relaxed but high level and it was expected that whilst you can come in a little later or work from home that you would actually do your work. It was not a gossipy environment but neither was it silent and impersonal. A good balance between professional and chatty.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In any large bank or cooporation it can be hard to organise lots of students, but the framework in place seems to support a good majority of interns. It seemed a little 'one size fits all' but I didn't have any problems.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say that whilst the internship itself felt a little impersonal and that not much effort was made to hone in on my skills exactly and develop them, as a strange by-product of where i was working I was exposed to things that I now see as invaluable, such as excel and project management.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would probably work for LBG if given the opportunity because it's a good company to start climbing the career ladder with. I am not sure if the incentives are right for me but that's because I want to work internationally leaning environment.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This was not something I was aware of. I knew people prior to the internship who I spent time with but got to know very few others when working with LBG and I feel this was a huge shame.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Ridiculous. The working hours are too long to go out after work as you work hard during the day that you are exhausted after. The city is an offensively expensive place to socialise and I would not say you earn even nearly enough money to sustain a good quality of life if you go out in the city often.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Abysmal. Not recommending going out in the city to anyone unless you want to take a mortgage out and leave your internship in more debt than when you started... I live in London but the city is a farce.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As I said before, you are pretty shattered after working if you are doing it right so there's little energy, let alone opportunity to do stuff during the week. Weekends you have a nice time but that's not through work... or with your colleagues.. because why would anyone go out and socialise with their colleagues?!
