    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • In my placement, I felt like a valued member of the team, and felt like my colleagues were keen to treat me like one of them, and trusted me. which made me feel valued and important, helping me to produce better work which I felt was meaningful, which helped me to enjoy my placement as I could see the impact I was having.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues, both within my small teams and in wider teams. Nobody gave me meaningless tasks, and I didn't feel like I was just seen as a general dogsbody, and wasn't given tasks like photocopying to do, which made me feel that this placement was better than past work experience.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All of the team were there for me and keen to support me. Even when my line manager was on holiday for two weeks during my internship, I did not feel lost in my role, as other team members took on the responsibility of managing me. Regular one-to-One meetings with my line manager also greatly helped this

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied quite a lot over the course of the placement. At some points, it was very quiet, and there was not much I could do, but at other points, it was very busy and there was a huge amount to do - I even stayed late some days and worked in the evenings. There was nothing that could have been done to smooth this fluctuation out, but it was difficult at times

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility on some tasks, and was able to chair a meeting and work on some very important documents - some of my work even reached Board level, which was lovely to hear. Other tasks were not assigned to me because of the nature of them, and more senior colleagues looked after them.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot of very helpful things, notably Microsoft Excel skills, which may help me in my degree as thy will help data manipulation, analysis and presentation. I have also developed interpersonal skills, proffessionalism and grown in confidence, which I think will help me throughout my degree and in employment afterwards.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was not dull, but was very professional, so I wouldn't describe it as overly fun. Although I enjoyed my placement, and it wasnt an "all work and no play" attitiude in the office, it wasn't a jovial atmosphere at all times. I would best describe the atmosphere as "friendly", as everyone was friendly and would chat at times, but would't do so at the sacrifice of work all the time

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I thought generally the internship was very well set up. However, there was an issue with a mix-up in pay rate, which was Reed's fault, not Lloyds' fault. This mix-up made me question that aspect of the organisation of the internship, as to me, that is a fairly crucial part. The internship worked well and support was definitely there ifneeded, although in truth I didn't need any suport outside of my team.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel like I was taught or shown a lot, and a lot of time was invested in teaching me and showing me areas for improvement in things I did. This was good, as it showed that the company wanted to invest in me for the future, way beyond the internship, so felt like I wasn't just being used by a large corporate as cheap labour

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think that there is definitely a strong prospect of employment, but since I have only just finished my first eyar of university, there is no offer currently on the table. If I was offered a graduate scheme with them, I would almost definitely accept it, although I possibly think that there is too much red-tape in the organisation for me to want to work here forever

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We went out for lunch a lot, which was nice, but there was not much after work socialising

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home and commuted for my internship, so it wasn't as expensive as it could have been. Most days, I would get a meal deal for lunch, which wasn't very expensive. However, when we got lunch out, it as sometimes expensive, but that is no great surprise givent that I was working in London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't really experience it

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a five-a-side football competition after work on thursdays. There was also a lot of social opportunities which arose from the Charity Challenge, which all interns had to do. This was a good chance to get involved in networking and activities in the evenings and weekends with people around my age.
