    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed this internship from start to finish- it has allowed me to get a feel for the business and work within all areas in the department. I have been given different tasks to complete throughout which have kept me busy; the weeks just flew by!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that i was really able to fit into each team i worked with. I was made to feel welcome and everyone was always giving time to help me and answer any questions! Colleagues also emersed themselves into my planned charity events which was great.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager during this placement was great and fully supported me throughout. He took time to find out what i was interested in/ what i wanted to get out of my internship, so was able to tailor my work specifically. I was set a list of targets at the beginning, had a mid point review to see my progress and then a end of placement review where my achievements during my time here were discussed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning of my internship i was set a list of targets in a balance score card so i always had ongoing progects to work towards throughout. Within these projects, i was working with a different team each week, so was also given smaller tasks to do which were more specific to helping out the team. I also had an intern charity challenge where i was the team leader of a group of interns,to plan events and raise as much money for Children in Need as we could.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my intership i was given lots of responsibility. I was team leader, managing a team of other interns in a charity challenge, all of which were located in different areas of the country. I was also managing 5 colleagues within the department to organise an ongoing charity event. My work load included different tasks that required me to research and investigate, then present back to my line manager. These tasks were necessary to assist current work streams so it was important that i not only got them done, but did them to the best standard.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that this internship has further developed key skills that i will continue to use in all aspects of my life. I have shown myself that i can organise, prioritise work loads, take on new challenges and manage groups of people. It has also allowed me to work on giving presentations which will definitely assist me in my last year at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My intership was based in an office with a few hundred colleagues. The atmosphere was great- i felt at ease as soon as i started working there and everyone was really friendly. The atmosphere felt quite relaxed but with everyone getting on with what they need to do. Every so often there would be team buffets/ cake sales/ dress down days.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had continuous emails/ details from the talent team before starting my placement and then was in touch with my line manager to be, before i started work. I feel that my internship had been planned here well in advance so that when i started, there was a plan of action set up straight away. This plan was then able to be tailored to suit me and what i wanted from the internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended frequent online webinars, set up specifically for the interns. I was able to sit in meetings and training sessions within my office and i was also able to attend a networking event in Halifax where i was able to meet other interns and current graduates.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Working for Lloyds in the future is very appealing because it offers an organised graduate scheme where you get to work in different placements, which i am very intersted in. It offers a competitive salary and i would have the possibility to work my way up in the business. It also offers great training plans/ qualifications.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was living in a flat with 6 other interns, organised and paid for through the internship. This meant i was living just a 15 minute walk from my job and right in the centre of Manchester; great for shopping/ eating out/ nightlife. The inters in the flat were a great bunch of people who i intend to continue to stay friends with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The flat i was living in was paid and organised through the internship. It was just a 15 minute walk from my job so no travelling costs and right in the centre of Manchester so everything i needed was on my doorstep. Even though I only live about an hour away from Manchester, The bonus of living away was that it saved me having to commute there and back every day. Also, the socialising costs were the same as i would expect at home.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were plenty of places to go to and all with different prices depending on your budget. Friday and Saturday nights always had a busy atmostphere. The only down side was that all the bars/clubs were spread out all over Manchester so we tended to stick to the same few!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Regarding work/ colleagues, there were not many oppotunities to get involved in much. However, as i was living in a flat with other inters there was always something going on or somebody organising an activity! Also, as i only live about an hour away from my placement, i was able to travel home on weekends if i wanted to.
