The Role
I enjoyed the internship very much. I gained great market knowledge that I could only have experienced by being on a trading floor. I made excellent contacts who will be beneficial for my future progress in the financial industry. The internship was the best way for me to find out which roles on the trading floor I liked and would be good at. A much greater insight than what I could have got from just researching the role.
I felt exceptionally valued by colleagues. Ever single person I spoke to had time to sit with me and explain to me what they did, even though they were very busy.
There were regular catch up sessions with HR who informed us of our progress and also informed us of our strengths and weaknesses. We also had a mentor who was usually an MD or ED, so had a lot of experience and could advise us who to speak to. We also had a buddy who would be an associate level, so were more similar to us in the sense that they had probably been on an internship in the last few years
Varied. The last few weeks were busy with project deadlines, and I had to come in a few weekends to catch up on work. However, there was still time in the day to network and speak to people
I was given trades to price on my structuring rotation to compare with the price the other structurers got. I was also able to produce a structured trade idea. On my trading rotation, I was able to produce different hedges for mock trades the desk had given me, and also mock trades on futures.

The Company
Very friendly atmosphere. Great buzz to the trading floor
lots of presentations on the different divisions on at the bank, and the different desks and roles. Also lots of training
Lots of training in the first few weeks. Also visited Bloomberg as well to be taught how to use it at work
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
lots of future prospects. Many roles to start straight away for grads and opportunity for penultimate years to start next year or do another internship
The Culture
Many interns and colleagues went for a drink at the pub at the back of work frequently, which was a great way to network and meet other interns. There were also social events on the roof terrace every fortnight, multiple networking events and project days with the whole intern class to meet the interns in the other divisions.
Obviously being in central London, food and drink were both very expensive. However, the bank paid well so was less of a problem.
5 minute walk from Liverpool street where there's plenty of nice clubs and bars. Also pretty close to Shoreditch which is a good place to go out. Went out most Thursdays and Friday.
Plenty of networking events and opportunities to go out with the desk and colleagues for food and networking.
