The Role
Overall I've really enjoyed the summer I spent here. All the people I was working with were super friendly, and living with all the other interns was really fun and made working a lot easier.
I felt valued by all the people in my particular team, and they trusted me with quite a bit of work. Even when I would be on calls with people who hadn't met me or heard of me, they seemed to take everything I said on board and I didn't feel patronized at all.
My line manager and I got on really well, and I feel as though she gave me a lot of guidance with new projects that I wouldn't be so sure on. At the same time she let me have quite a lot of independence and I was able to work things out on my own as well, but I was never left completely in the dark.
On the whole the internship set us a lot to do with a retail and charity challenge on top of your day to day work. It really depends how much you put into it to determine how busy your day is. I found some days were incredibly busy and I was constantly doing something, but I definitely enjoyed these the most. The days where there was not much, which did happen a fair few times, are the slowest.
I was put in charge of a section of a presentation that I had to present to the head of the whole department which was quite a bit of responsibility! Lloyds don't try and give you the small jobs that noone will notice which is really good.
I think the skills I've learnt from lloyds will be really helpful in the future, especially looking for jobs etc. It didn't really link into my degreee studies but other than that it's been a really useful experience.
The Company
The office was super friendly and I got on with all my colleagues. There is still a very corporate atmosphere and obvioulsy not endless amounts of fun. Due to many people having flexible working hours some days it could be very quiet and since I was unable to work from home these days weren't great.
It was reasonably well organised, although my line manager didn't fully understand the graduate referral process as it was her first intern.
We had to complete balance scorecards in terms of our personal development, which was really good to keep us on track. However we didn't really have any training before we got there so it started quite slow
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Above 25 days holiday
Travel loan
There's a chance to get referred onto the grad scheme, and progression from there seems very hopeful.
The Culture
I was in accomodation with a lot of the other interns, and we managed to go out quite a bit and go for drinks and meals throughout the week. It was really great living with other interns and definitely added to the enjoyment of the summer.
Fairly cheap up north.
Quite an active nightlife but we were lucky living in Leeds.
Not really many out of work activities with colleagues.
