    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • At first, i found it a bit boring but as soon as I was given more work to do I got stuck in and this made me enjoy myself more because I felt like I was involved in actual work and not just admin type work that interns usualy get given

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Definitely felt valued. The poeople I worked with in my team were really happy and cheerful (breaks the stereotype of bankers) and this enabled me to enjoy my work and there was always a light banter in the office which I enjoyed.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • They were always there to help if I had any sort of issue!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Quite busy. In the office by 8am and usually left by 5.30-6. Alot of interns were someitmes in till 8-9pm or sometimes even later. This was not an issue for me as I had told my line manager I needed to be leaving earlier due to family committments and they understood. In terms of workload, I had enough work to do on a daily basis to keep me busy which would make the day go by quite fast.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Seemed to be the perfect amount. We were encouraged to work on one or two projects alone but there was always guidance and support available if we ever felt out of our depth. We all were given our own diary tasks which had to be done routinely everyday. There would be constant new projects evolving that we would be invited to work on with different teams so this kept things interesting as we worked with new poeple and this helped networking skills aswell.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Didn't receive any training as such. However, in terms of skills, I belive I built on my communication skills greatly (Speaking to new poeple and netwokring). We did individual presentations to our team on topics of our choice so this helped my presenting skills and also developed my confidence in public speaking. Learnt alot about financials and general skills such as Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Also became skilled in using Bloomberg which is a very useful programme to learn.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was quite laid back and relaxed which i found quite surprising as i expected it to be a lot more hectic. There was always a light banter in the office but when there was a lot of work to get done, things would get quieter but never too strict or intimidating for me as an intern

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised well. We were all allocated our own Buddy who had a lot of experience in Capital Markets so we were always supported. We had access to Bloomberg, the hard drive files and printers etc. fairly soon after starting so this was good. We also had meetings with our line manager in week 1,4 and 8 so this was well structured.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We receieved a week of presentations on the various teams that worked on our floor i.e. the Product teams. This was helpful as it helped build our understanding of the teams at the start of our internship so we had more of a clue as to whats going on around us. We also had a training session to learn about Bloomberg which I unfortunately missed but this was apparently a very informative and useful training session

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Lloyds seems like a welcoming place for future employement and the benefits you receive as a full-time employee seem attractive. In terms of the hours you work, it may not be ideal for some but that really depends on what team you work within. I would love to work for Lloyds after university so fingers crossed for a graduate referral!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My team was CMAG- Capital Markets Analyst Group and this team was quite tight-knit. There were a couple of events organised during my time there including a nightout, a barbeque, farewell drinks for a colleague etc. We also went out on the weekends with other interns as we were living in accomodation provided by Lloyds in Kings Cross. This meant we were at the heart of London so never got bored on the weekends.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in St Pauls so being in the City of London, food and drinks were quite expensive. Worth it though because its London and you pay for the location. Cost of living is not an issue if you receive accomodation which is quite easily available for interns and it is provided free of charge. Cost of public transport is also quite alot- usually £5 a day if you travel to and from work with TFL. I, however, used to be able to walk to work within 30 mins so this was not an issue for me.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a Dirty Martini one road away and a couple of bars 10 mins walk away in Liverpool Street. Its Lndon so nothings too far away and you could get to Piccadilly Circus within 10 mins so Nightlife was amazing. Even if you aren't into going clubbing, bars etc. theres still LOADS you can do in London in the day so I give this 10 stars.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were all put in charity teams for our charity challenge so we did quite a bit of fundraising in and out of work hours so this was quite interesting. We didnt tend to go out to do anything during the weekdays after work but the weekends were quite lively. Not many opportunities that were linked to work though
