The Role
My placement was invaluable and taught me many skills, and enjoyed every aspect from managing the physical resources to human resources. It's a pressurised position and challenging at times, but this makes it quite fun and enjoyable.
You feel valued from day one from colleagues in your store and from your District Manager, Head office Management. However Senior Managers in my region had little to do with my placement which was a shame, however this seemed to be region specific but this made me determined to show them my abilities.
You have a dedicated team in Head Office that can deal with all your queries and you meet up with them on a regular basis, which really helps you communicate any problems. Managers in your store are more than happy to help you if you need it, Lidl invest heavily in your training and are very supportive through the whole the placement.
You generally are very busy but you will have had adequate training before hand to deal with these busy periods. I found it to be challenging and very rewarding and enjoyed keeping busy. Some day’s would be more stressful than others but skills you learn are invaluable.
I was left run a store for 3 months alongside an experienced store manager who let me run the store I was responsible for writing shift rota's to ordering stock, interviewing new employees all the way to conducting a disciplinary. For the last 3 months of my placement I helped run a district where I took responsibility for 5 stores whilst shadowing an experienced District Manager.
I learnt to learn and learned expanded on my communication, delegation, leaderships skills I also learnt how to manage both physical and Human resources within the retail sector.
The Company
Its more of shopfloor than office, but the atmosphere is very positive, even on those bad days.
I had a varied experience of this, the placement has allot of structure and Placement Coordinator tried her best to make sure that all opportunities are maximised. However it seemed my region misinterpreted some instructions and sometime’s my arrival was unexpected.
The placement offer's some brilliant trainning. I found the Human Resource tranning most interesting. and learn't many transferable skills.

They are very appealing and prospects have been disscused.
The Culture
In my store there wasn't however in my region myself and the other placement student's made really good friend's and have had a few good nights out.
Fairly priced.
There wasn't really a night life around any of the stores that i worked in however there's some really good bars at Head Office.
There wasn't really any social events outside of work.
