The Role
I really enjoyed being part of a team and being trusted with daily responsibilities in such a fast pace environment. My manager has been very helpful, available to explain concepts and answer my questions at any time. I appreciated the opportunities the company offered, such as online courses for my personal learning and development.
My colleagues trusted me and I developed a good relationship with all of them. Everyone was willing to help any time I had a question.
My manager has been my "guide" during this internship, he has been a manager, a mentor, an advisor, a colleague at the same time. He recognised my value when I was performing well and giving me tips and encouragements on how to do even better at the same time. I felt supported every single day I cam in to work.
I was expecting to be busier, but I was in Operations, so the work hours were much more relaxed and less stressful.
I have to say that I managed to deserve the trust of my manager and my colleagues, so as the time passed by, I realised they were trusting me with more complex pieces of work.
I gained an understanding of how a macro works - I didn't even know what a macro was before starting the Internship, and now, after 9 weeks, I also think that I got to know myself and what I am and am not capable of. Not only has it been an insight in the world of banking, but also an itinerary to understand my strenghts and weaknesses.
The Company
Warming and friendly
For Operations, I think it wasn't well set up: first, we were not allowed to choose which desk to get assigned to, but we were randomly allocated (whereas in other departments they are allowed to express preferences). Secondly, we could not rotate, even though Operations is such a broad area with many different functions.
I think the firm invests a lot on its emplyees, especially for online courses, speaker series and events.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I don't think in Operations there are many prospects, since many functions are being offshored a lot lately. However, the organization as a whole offers a lot of employment opportunities in other areas.
The Culture
We managed to get along and establish a good relationship!
I was located around Liverpool Street Station. It was relatively not too expensive considering London standards. A lot of opportunities to socialize, since there are a lot of pubs and bars around.
Shoreditch is quite close, so awesome Nightlife at weekends.
Definitely yes
