The Role
In terms of gaining contacts / building a network, as well as the skills you learn and opportunities you get to ask questions, an internship here is unmatched, and offers so much beyond the scope of any uni course. There is a great mix of learning events / breakfast teach-in sessions, networking chances, and time to contribute real work to desks, so was great to be able to enjoy al of these aspects.
Here, you get the best of both worlds, in that any colleagues understand you take time to understand specific processes etc. but are also given the chance to 'learn by doing'. Everyone is approachable, from Analysts to MDs, and noone looks down on interns at all.
Excellent support scheme. A mentor, who is an MD, a Buddy, who is an Associate, and an HR Program Manager, are all there as a support network. Desk heads often take time to ensure the program is going well as well.
Varied by desk and by week, depending on the flow of work that managers get, but generally enough to consistantly contributre real work to the business, without having to pull all-nighters. You're always free to meet other desks and take work on from them as well if you are free, so it is impossible to be bored.
Given the fact you are an intern, you're given a huge chance to contribute real work to your desk, and over time, to build their trust and perhaps get less constant checking of your work over time as well. Huge responsibility in representing the company in attending meetings with external parties / helping salespeople with what they send to clients.
Already graduated, so of little help there. However, skills learnt here will be useful in any career, and certainly anywhere in the finance world. Bloomberg training, Excel skills, experience in pitching, researching and communicating professionally are all hugely valuable skills to have.
The Company
Really relaxed atmosphere, and noone will ever be too busy for you at all of the time. Really good chance to get to know other staff, either in the bar downstairs, or during arranged sessions over the 10 weeks.
Really well organised. Regular teach in sessions, and really easy to find your feet on any new desk. Chance to learn throughout the internship, without the one-week training beforehand that would have been forgotten some weeks later.
Given Bloomberg access, and got to experience all areas of Global Markets in our time here. Career talks and mentors mean you can always find someone to ask questions to. Also, the pre-learning done online beforehand sets you up for joining the desk well.

Staff Sales/Staff Shop
A fantastic organisation to work in on a daily basis, and one which is really doing well in the markets where it operates. A slightly short time-horizon on which areas / products it does operate in mean you can't be wholly sure of a career for life upon joining, but in terms of the work, people, building, and success in its existing markets, it is at the very top.
The Culture
Always able to network on the roof terrace / in the bar downstairs.
London is obviously expensive, but the internship pays competitively so it is possible to have the freedom to go anywhere, and live well and socialise as often as you would want. London also does have cheaper areas if you did want to save more money whilst here.
Great bars nearby
Charity initiatives, although hard to get involved for too much, given the 10 week scheme and being primarily focused on work during that time.
