    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It took 4 weeks for any work to materialise, during which time I was left to 'widen my understanding' of the business area I was placed in, which became very boring very quickly. The pay is good and the hours are very reasonable which made it bearable.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Once I actually had some work to do. I felt valued by the team. The team I worked in were great and the senior members did take an interest in my development through out the 10 weeks.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As mentioned, the first month of having nothing to do day to day was pretty poor management. Once I had work to do my line manager was very supportive as were other members of the wider team who I dealt with.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Not busy at all. Working hours were 9-5. Friday everyone works from home which means your working day becomes 10-3 which was good. I busiest day I had in the whole 10 weeks probably resulted in 6 hours of actual work in the day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had one large deliverable during my time which was very important to deliver on time and correctly. Fortunately I managed to get it done. This was the only piece of responsibility I had during the 10 weeks. The deliverable took about a week's worth of work to do.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having completed an internship before where I learnt a vast amount of skills and personal development, this internship has not improved these.

    1/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly with a nice mix of people from different backgrounds. There were other interns and graduates in my team alongside senior managers and directors.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • They contract out the entire recruitment process to Reed who managed my onboarding fairly well, despite having to send documentation multiple times. Once in the bank though, it is very much at your line managers discretion how your internship will play out. unfortunately in my case, they project that they had planned for me to complete fell through just before I joined, hence the quiet first month. Usually the line managers have something set up for you to do from the start which was the case with other interns I've met.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It's completely up to you. If you want to go out and learn about a different business area then you can go and shadow people, but you have to go and find the contacts and arrange it all.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Not for me. Work was very dull and the graduates I've spoke to wouldn't encourage coming back.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The do pay for accomodation for all interns which is a nice touch. I hear there is a social scene at the intern accomodation. Our team had monthly drinks which was entertaining. The charity challenge is a good way to socialise with other interns.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lived at home and commuted in. As mentioned, they provide accomodation for interns if they want it close to the offices. London prices for travelling and socialising is always expensive compared to other areas of the country.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Exceptional.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The charity challenge was a good opportunity to get out and raise money for charity.

    4/5
