The Role
I felt like the internship was a very positive experience. On the first day there was an induction event in London in which all the interns went to. It made me feel at ease in the business straight away as you realise everyone is in the same boat. During the internship the team made me feel very welcome, I was given my own projects to work on and I was never asked to make tea/coffee for anyone.
Again, the team made me feel very welcome from day one. One thing I can honestly say is that everyone is genuinely nice. It is a very positive environment to work in and I was always made to feel like I was making a genuine contribution to the team. My line manager said on a couple of occasions that they got value out of me which can only be a compliment.
My whole team and not just my line manager cared about my development. I had weekly 1 on 1 discussion with my line manager and was always asked if there was anything they could do for me. My line manager and team were always there to get me in touch with contacts around the business if I needed to talk to them as part of a project or if I had an interest in that area.
This varied. I feel like the workload was not very consistent. Sometimes I was rammed and on a couple of occasions I literally had nothing to do even after asking for more work. I could understand the situation though as I was part of a very small team when they were busy they didn't have time to stop and show me what to do it would have been quicker for them to do it themselves - especially when I'm only there for 10 weeks. Apart from that, the projects you're given mean you have something to do most of the time and the team give you odd tasks as and when they arise.
I was surprised by the amount of responsibility I was given during my internship. Apart from having my own project in which I assessed the capability of new software (which was used by the bank), I created powerpoints which were used in meetings and training sessions. I think some interns had more responsibility than me, and I had more than others so it varied.
I've definitely learnt a lot from this internship. I feel like I have developed my interpersonal skills and learnt a lot more about powerpoint and excel. I didn't know that I was unsure of how to use excel until I was asked to do pivot tables! I've also became better with time management etc.
The Company
The general atmosphere was good. Everyone in the office is very friendly and willing to get involved with all the charity work the interns had to get involved with. The atmosphere I'm aware of varied between teams with some deparments sit in silence the majority of the time - which then makes you feel guilty when you engage in conversation as you feel like you are interrupting them.
The overall internship was set up very well and there was frequent communications between LBG and the interns before the internship and during. We were all set up with a buddy who was there to answer any questions we may have and the induction day in London gave us all an informative start.
There are internal training courses you can go on as an intern. You can also speak to different areas of the business, do some shadowing etc. My team were very concerned with making sure I was developing and getting the most from the intrnship.

The graduate scheme is very appealing. By the end of the graduate scheme you are expected to roll off into a higher position - I've heard a lot about colleagues rolling off into well paid positions. The good thing about a company such as LBG is that because its so big there are so many opportunites available.
The Culture
Being based in Bristol there was a large amount of interns/scholars. There was a divide between the interns and scholars due to the scholars all knowing each other previously. It feels a bit like freshers year all over again due to everyone being in the same accomodation, its all down to luck as to whether the social scene is good. Everyone did organise amongst themselves to go out etc but a lot of people were gone some weekends. It can be a pain when everyone splits off into small groups.
Fully subsidised accomodation - Lloyds Banking Group paid for our accomodation which was private halls which had bars and restaurants close by. All reasonably priced you only needed to pay for food and any activities you were getting up to.
Nightlife in Bristol was great! Only downside was that over the summer its a lot quieter with the students not being around. There was plenty of bars etc around which was perfect.
Some of the graduates organised activities for all the interns/scholars halfway through the internship which argueably was a bit late. There was apportunites to get involved with the team outside of work however I never really went to any of the leaving drinks for team members I never met etc.
