The Role
My internship was very insightful for me, as i was not previously aware of the range of roles avaliable within the bank. I've enjoyed getting to meet various different people and hearing there stories of how they landed in the business and getting a real hands on exprience.
I feel valued by my collegaues as i was treated like a actual part of the company and the work they gave me was work which was useful to them, which made me feel very valued and that what i was doing was appreciated.
I had weekly one to ones with my manager which i was able to discuss everything and anything. I was set the task of creating a balance scordcard which provided a great guideline of what i needed to do and my goals during the internship
There were times i could have had more work as i often found myself not as busy on days or looking for work, however this only really was in the afternoon as i was mostly given projects and just had to wait for feedback on them to proceed.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility, i lead various calls with colleagues and was in control of my own projects and could decide how exactly i wanted conduct them which was great and taught me to take my inititive.
It has given me a lot of transferrable skills, including leadership from taking the lead in my internship charity challenge on certain things. Also it has helps me will a lot of analytical skils which is key for my Law degree.
The Company
The office is generally very friendly and there was a great sense of community amongst the interns and scholars in the office as we would regulary meet for lunch and socials on weekends which was great and helps ensure work was fun to come to.
Except from initial technical and IT Problems, it was well structured and a timetable was set up for me prior to my arrival. I had been delegated three projects for my time and what was needed to be done for them all which was very helpful and helped me stay organised.
The internship helped develop me more on a overal basis rather than personal as i was working in a department which did not directly relate to my degree, however the skills that i was able to pick up are applicable to other areas of my life.
I am considering working for them and being able to see what it would be like in the 10 weeks of my internship has definately got me thinking, however i am still looking at all my options for my future.
The Culture
There was more of a social scene amoungst fellow placemement students than there was amongst collegagues as we had a whats app group chat with over 60 people which we regualary interacted in.
Cost of living as i worked in london and live in Hertfordshire were covered by the bank. My accomadation was paid for, however socalising as expected was rather pricy because i am located in london but it was still affordable.
I did not really go out much where i work.
There were regular socials which were run by the interns for us outside of office hours, mostly related to the charity challenge which was set to us all by the bank.
