The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Metaswitch. The work was interesting and the people were all very friendly. There was a good work atmosphere and lots of other interns so a social side too. A summer well spent!
I think I fitted into my team well and also made good friends with many of the other interns.
My manager was very good, always willing to answer my questions and point me in the right direction. A weekly status meeting ensured he knew where I was at with my work and so we could move forward accordingly.
I generally always had work to be doing, if not I just asked my manager what to do next and it never got too busy that I felt overwhelmed. So it was a good balance.
I was given lots of responsibility for my individual project as I was the only one working on it. I was responsible from the initital design to writing the code and then testing.
The presentation and feedback sessions was very useful and developed skills that will help in the future. The work may not be directly relevant but I've developed my problem-solving skills which will definitely be beneficial.
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone was very friendly. Everyone was working hard but it wasn't ever pressurised. Although sometimes a little quiet in the office, it was a nice place to work each day.
It was organised very well. All the information I needed was sent to me in good time and there was always someone I could ask if wasn't sure on something, both before the internship and during.
The company invested a lot, including running a presentation and feedback session for all of the interns. I had my own personal training plan that my manager made and we reviewed on a weekly basis.

The Culture
Metaswitch offers a company house to its interns which is extremely convenient and very good value. They are all a short walk from the offices and there is someone that will sort any issues/fix any breakages.
Enfield is close enough to central London, with good train lines, so I didn't really go out in Enfield. In Enfield itself there are quite a few pubs that I went to which were nice.
Yes there were lots of clubs and sports you could take part in at lunchtimes. There was also an inter-department competition running in the summer which was fun to be involved with. There were also drinks organised for new starters/ when someone left.
