The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Lloyds Banking Group, I was treated really well and given a variety of tasks to do every day. I gained so much experience and confidence and it was a great way to spend my summer - earning money and getting invaluable experience.
I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues, they were to afraid to hand over work to me and I was treated as if I was a permanent part of the team. They all made an effort to help me settle in and treat me like an adult.
My manager was very supportive of me; he always tried to get me as much varied experience as he could. He also pushed me to leave my comfort zone and gain more skills but never made me feel uncomfortable.
My workload varied on a daily basis. Some days I was busy all day and other days work was harder to come by. However busy I was I was never required to stay past 5 or made to feel under pressure.
I was involved in a lot of tasks on my placement but I wasn’t given that much responsibility. I was in charge of things but they were always checked over before they were submitted.
The skills I developed are incredibly valuable for life. I gained so much confidence and experience of working in an office environment is very valuable. I also improved my excel skills which will help me in my degree and in my future career.
The Company
Great, relaxed atmosphere in my office. Hot desks meant you weren’t always sat next to the same person. Everyone gets along really well which makes it a great place to work.
Organisation was poor before the internship as we didn't find out where we would be placed or what kind of role we would be doing until a few weeks before we started. Organisation once I started was good though.
My manager was really interested in my development and wanted me to make the most out of my time.
Subsidised Canteen
I am hoping to be referred onto the graduate programme beginning next September. The referral process was a lot easier than if you were to apply to the graduate scheme from the outside.
The Culture
Living in the same building as other interns meant it was easy to make friends and have a social life. The charity challenge also made it easier to make friends.
Bristol isn't cheap but not as expensive as somewhere like London.
Lots of pubs around the area we lived and also near the office for after work drinks. Being a student town, there is a lot of clubs.
Lots of social events such as the yearly charity fancy dress pub rally.
