The Role
The job was not technical enough for me really. Would recommend for someone looking to get into the business side of IT
Very friendly and helpful colleagues. Organised work nights out to get to know everyone. I felt I fitted into the team very quickly
My supervisor in particular was very helpful. A six month review period helps you to get the most out of the second six months of your placement. This provides lots of information of where you are performing and where you can improve.
Workload in IT Support always varies, some days were packed with issues others were very quite. However project work on the side helped to fill in the gaps.
I was given an active role in several key projects. However projects will only be undertaken if the support role is filled correctly.
I gained a variety of skills during the placement, most of them were not what I thought I would gain at the beginning of the year but all of them were much more valuable than what I thought I would need.
The Company
Office banter was pretty good! Although a lot depends on your supervisor and team.
Fantastically organised from start to finish.
I attended one internal course throughout the year. The rest of the training was really on the job training.

The company do take placement students as graduates, however in recent years due to the financial down turn the number of students taken on per year has decreased significantly.
The Culture
There were lots of placement students working at the same site. However the majority of these were Biology and Chemistry students.
Reading was pretty cheap, being a student town there are plenty of cheap places to go.
Lived near Reading so there were plenty of nights out! Weekends only though as work had to take priority.
Every year the company do a day of service.
