The Role
I enjoyed every aspect of my placement; the work, the people and the social side.
Everyone had the time for me if I needed it, despite them having very busy schedules. I felt like a key part of the team and was never treated as "just an intern"
My managers always had the time to support me if required. As my manager had been an Amex intern 8 years before me, she could relate to my situation and was very supportive.
There were times when I was very busy (10hour working days without breaking for lunch) and times when I could easily work my 7 hours and have a lunchbreak. If my workload was too much all I had to do was tell my manager who would delegate my workload to other team members.
I was responsible for a number of very high profile projects over the year. They were projects on our President's scorecard, which had very tough timelines and targets. I was told by my managers that the level of responsibility I had was unusual for an intern, and was that of someone a level higher than myself.
Not only did I develop my professional skill-set, I became a lot more confident in my personal life. I now believe "impossible is nothing".
The Company
Although everyone was so busy, there was a lot of office banter. People were always willing to have a laugh.
I would have appreciated a more formal intern framework. Although there were more interns at Amex, I didn't know who they were. It would have been good to have a more formal framework as we could share our experiences and it would have been nice to have other people inthe same situation as myself.
There was no formal training, it was more a case of learning on the job.

Amex don't usually offer work to interns outside of the placement, however I was offered a 3 month contract extention. After graduation I have the option to apply either for the graduate scheme, or an executive job, as I have been told by my managers that I am already working at that level.
The Culture
There were always people up for going out on a Friday after work. My team specifically had a social committee, who organised monthly outings and lunchtime events for the team.
It was London, so it was expensive, but my wage reflected the fact that London is expensive. I was able to afford nights out.
There are a variety of pubs, bars and restaurants in Victoria. Also it's easy to get up to the West End via tube.
There were a few charity events which people could be involved in
