    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I think as with any investment banking internship there were good days and bad days. Overall a great experience, not sure enjoyed would be the right word. There were some very fulfilling days and some days where I'd be in until the very early hours of the morning doing a very mundane take. However, I was on a great team and the people I got to work with were amazing.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At the beginning not very, but as the internship went on and trust started to be built I did feel pretty valued. The analysts were especially appreciative when you were able to help them out.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Overall my team was very supportive. You're assigned a buddy, am mentor and a line manager so there are a variety of people available to you. Uni alumni also reach out quite a bit and are happy to change and give advice as needed. I personally didn't see my line manager a lot but had a great buddy and mentor which made up for it.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied - some days especially at the beginning were slow while others were absolutely swamped. There are definitely lulls throughout the day but generally things pick up again in the evening.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As your team starts to trust you, you get quite a lot of responsibility. The analysts and associates on my team encourage us to send work we had contributed on directly to ED's/MD's so we would take responsibility for our work and get exposure.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Definitely learnt a lot over the 9 weeks, not always enjoyable but definitely always interesting and a very steep learning curve.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • General atmosphere within the office was friendly, people were busy but usually happy to answer questions and help where they could. That being said there is quite a clear hierarchy with takes time to adjust to.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Internship was well set up - we were given schedules during training week which were stuck to well so we had an idea of when talks would be happening, social events etc. The first few weeks were a bit event heavy while the end was quite empty so would have been nice to be a bit more spread out.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm set up a training week which covered both work (Excel, FactSet, basic accounting/valuation) and personal skills (effective communication, goal setting etc.) so definitely felt like the firm was investing in us

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, however dinner is covered if you stay past 8 and cabs home past 10 which helps. Lots of nice restaurants around.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was great although didn't really have time to enjoy it. Had some good team night outs though, as well as nights out with other interns.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really, there were one community service opportunities but would have been nice to have more available. To be fair there was not a lot of time outside work so would have been difficut to attend even if there were.
