The Role
I enjoyed working in a professional environment with a team who pushed me to develop my skills and learn a great deal in a short time. I enjoyed being given responsibility which made me feel like I was making a valuable impact to the team, and I enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment when I mastered a new task. I sometimes did not enjoy the repetition of some of the reports I was running, but I assume this would be more varied in a full-time role.
I felt valued by my colleagues as they took time out of their busy schedules to train me both on daily tasks and on broader financial concepts. I also felt like part of the team as I was helping out with their workload and my colleagues were happy for me to shadow them to learn more about their roles. I was also given the responsibility to take ownership of tasks which made me feel as though I was making a valuable contribution to the team.
Although the first week in my team was lacking in a clear training program or structure, my manager was very helpful at distributing work to me and making sure that I was busy and learning new things. My management and mentors were a great help at supporting me and giving feedback to ensure that I continued to develop, and my review sessions were helpful to allow me to reflect on what I had done well and what I needed to improve.
I was very busy to begin with as I was given a lot of responsibility early on within my team to run reports and contribute to their daily flow. I eventually found time to focus on the projects I was working on, and only in the last week have I become less busy as these projects have been completed and I have begun handing over my daily tasks to other members of the team. I would have liked to have more time to sit with different teams.
I was given a lot of responsibility early on to take ownership of tasks and work on individual projects. I was responsible for chasing members of the global team for evidence and reporting back to managers throughout the day. I was also given the responsibility to run a project within my team and train other teams on this along with my colleague,
I developed my time-management skills which will allow me to better balance my workload when I am studying for finals. I have also learnt how to be open to asking questions when I am unsure, and solving problems where I need clarification. Being in a professional environment has also enabled me to become more efficient in my work which is something that will help me at university and beyond.
The Company
The atmosphere was very dynamic which made day to day work interesting. Although there was sometimes confrontation between members of the team, disputes were always quickly resolved, and so whilst it took some getting used to, the lively atmosphere kept people on their toes and I was never bored.
The first week was poorly organised as there was no training schedule in place when I joined my desk. However my team were very helpful at keeping me busy and training me on the tasks they were running, and a training program was eventually put in place. I would have liked to see more organisation around my global project as I felt that I was left to figure this out individually and I feel that it would have been more valuable to work in a team for this.
The firm invested in my personal development by giving me regular feedback. The review system was very useful to remind me to perform well and both the positive and negative feedback allowed me to reflect on my experience whilst the process was ongoing. My team were happy to give up their time to train me which greatly developed my technical efficiency and I feel that it has been a very steep and enjoyable learning curve.

I would certainly be interested in returning to work for the firm. They have invested in me and I hope to return to use the skills I have developed and to build my network within the firm. The environment in the firm is definitely somewhere I see myself working and the people have convinced me that the firm is a rewarding place to work.
The Culture
There were intern events organised by HR and interns often organised their own events in order to meet people in different teams. Although we did not interact with the work placements as much, we got to know them within our teams which meant that we could build social networks with them outside of the office.
Excessive! I was not paid until six weeks into my internship which left me in a lot of debt as I had to pay my first month's rent on no income. In future I think it would be helpful to pay interns earlier on in the internship.
The nightlife was fun in the area and I often went for drinks after work with other interns or member of my team. I would have liked to see more organised evening events earlier on in the internship to encourage me to meet more people in this way.
I signed up for the netball network and also participated in a day of community service which enabled me to interact with my colleagues outside of the office.
