The Role
I really enjoyed the placement, it gave me a basic understanding of how the commercial team works on a project and an insight to how a team coordinate on a live construction site.
I felt very valued and everyone was very kind and answered my questions. However everyone was very busy at times and this was challenging at times.
I was given support when needed although as before the project was on handover so often there was not always structure in what I was meant to be doing.
Some days I was busy, I was given tasks however I always finished them very quickly. I would assist in small tasks and shadow people. Often therefore I would go on site visits with lots of different members of the project including other departments when I was not so busy.
I was not given a huge amount of responsibility as it was difficult to be wholly involved when I was only there for ten weeks. I was given ownership of small tasks and it gave me a insight to an project environment and practical experience which was invaluable
I know have a broader understanding of construction, physically experiencing things and I can apply this to my studies.
The Company
Everyone was friendly although very busy.
Good intentions to be busy although when there was no work it was tedious and frustrating.
I had a sustainability training course which was very useful.
Company Parties/Events
They offer a very high rated graduate scheme, although they do not offer building surveying which is what I would consider for a placement next year.
The Culture
We have met up for some drinks and we do get on although has been difficult as all based all over the place.
Expensive as central London, although I commute from home so my disposable income was higher.
Some bars and restaurants, but easy location to travel to West End or the City where it is much more lively.
Not a huge amount organised, a team meal on my last week.
