The Role
I had a really great summer working for Barclays. I had the opportunity to meet people across HR and different functions of the bank and to really get involved with the work of my team.
I was given proepr tasks to complete and was constantly involved in team acitivities.
My colleagues were excellent at helping me with the work/tasks I had been given and answering any questions I had. My manager was really good at supporting me with my career development and helping me to get the most out of the internship,
As I gained more confidence, my team gave me more responsibility and more to get involved with. I was never bored.
The internship is run so that interns are given specific projects to complete. I think this is a really good thing as I always had focus and these projects were pitched at the right level.
I learnt a lot about navigating a big organisation which will be good for the next step in my career.
The Company
All of the teams seemed to get on well with eachother and interact. I found people across my floor were all approachable.
I was always impressed with how well the Campus Team at Barclays organised the internship. Communication was excellent with the Campus Team. The events which were set up for interns were always well organised.
I feel that Barclays were genuinely interested in my personal development. They invest a lot in making sure that their interns are able to get the most out of the placement. I think a point of improvement could be to ask for candidate preferences on where they would like to be palced over the summer.
If you are a successful intern at the firm, you can be made an offer for the graduate programme. I think that the firm invests in their interns with the hope of taking them on for the graduate programme so future employment prospects are good.
The Culture
Opportunities to socialise were there. Campus team do make an effort to put on social events for interns however it would be good if there were more events put on for interns across business areas as different functions/areas were quite separated.
Quite expensive but this is what you would expect from London.
Good bars and places to eat nearby - lots going on over the summer,
I didn't really have the opportunity to get involved with activities outside of work but I think there were football teams. I think for girls, there could be more.
