The Role
I really enjoyed this internship! The internship has allowed me to develop many skills and I would definitely encourage anyone interested in this area to apply!
I felt really valued by my colleagues. From day one I was made to feel part of the team. I was always asked for my opinions on the work I was carrying out and really felt apart of the projects I was working on.
My manager was extremely supportive throughout my internship. She made it clear that I could always come to her with any questions or queries.
The amount of work I had changed from week to week. Some weeks I was extremely busy, others not so much. Your work load is really dependant on you. On weeks when I wasn't that busy I actively looked for work from my manager.
I was given a lot of responsibility. However, whilst I looked after a few small projects, support from the team was always available.
The internship wasn't very applicable to my degree. However, it developed many valuable skills needed for the work place such as time management and communication.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is great! The culture of the charity is amazing, you are surrounded by people who are all working towards the same goal and fighting a common cause.
The internship was really well organised. At the start of my internship I was given a document detailing all the projects I'd be working on, how long each would last and what skills I would gain from that project.
Since this internship is voluntary, CRUK makes a big effort to make sure you take something away in the form of personal development. At the start of the internship you are offered at mentor, throughout your internship you have weekly 1:1s with your manager who makes sure you getting what you wanted out of the internship. CRUK also runs a CV/Cover letter workshop for all the interns.
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
Employment prospects are good, but it really depends on what you are looking for. CRUK advertises vacancies on their website but as an intern you also have access to vacancies advertised internally.
The Culture
The social scene is what you make of it. With over 40 interns in the cohort there was ample opportunity to socialise with people
Typical London prices....very expensive
Lots of pubs and bars in the immediate area. There are also a small number of clubs close by.
Throughout the internship there were many opportunities to volunteer for CRUK events. There was also an opportunity to fundraise with all the other interns.
