    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Considering you are giving up most of your summer, missing out on holidays etc and working very long hours, it was actually very enjoyable. Great experience would recommend it to anyone interested in markets, great 10 weeks

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I did feel valued by my colleagues. I was given meaningful projects which had real life benefits for the teams I was working for. It definitely felt like the tasks I was given were a real help to the team, mainly as they didn't have time to work on some of the projects so I was helping to tie up lose ends.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Varied by desk. Managers didn't get involved too much but they are very busy. Generally had a lot of support and guidance, they would take time to ensure I understood concepts and seemed genuinely committed to my development during the rotation.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied day to day but generally very busy. Worked on some large projects which were very time consuming, and in between that you were supplementing knowledge, working on the trading game/stock pitch game, shadowing traders etc. Some days were non-stop but there were a couple of days where I had nothing to do (which was actually quite a nice break...)

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility which was great. (examples...) I worked on a client presentation and research report, my findings were used by the team to pitch to a client. Calculated option vol implied earnings jumps, results were used by the traders to adjust their positions/change premiums charged.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study a finance related course so the technical/conceptual skills I have developed will help going forward.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally quite relaxed and jokey. Could be very serious at times if it was a difficult day to trade but generally enjoyed the atmosphere I really liked how every desk was very approachable, you could go up to any desk to get information to help you generate trade ideas, aid your understanding etc and they were always happy to help

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • very well organised Weekly trading game and stock pitch ran by analysts

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Before the internship started I thought it was going to be a bit boring socially but I was completely wrong. Great social scene !-I think nearly every thursday/friday/saturday nights without fail a group of interns would go for drinks, go for meals or go out to some clubs/bars Felt fairly similar to uni, but you were working 60-70 hours a week haha

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

  • canary wharf has some decent bars, always busy on thurs and fri nights
