The Role
My team were fantastic and I enjoyed working with them. The work was very admin heavy and didn't fit with my interest for technical subject matter.
A great extent. As a team we worked well and I felt like I was contributing work of value.
I was given support and guidance when I asked. But I was also left to figure things out for myself which I liked. Compliance management gave a great deal of time to us as interns and even attended a social dinner after work.
On the whole I was busy, but still had time to network and go for coffee with other people within Barclays. Although the work load wasn't consistent. At the start and for a week in the middle of the internship I felt as though I didn't have a lot to do, even when I asked if I could do more.
I had some responsibilitiy but I think I could have been given more. There were a few times where I felt excluded from the actions of responsibilty and they were given to gradautes or taken on by more senior members of the team but I know that I could have done them just als well.
I had some opportunity to practice public speaking which is a skill that will assist me in my career. I also learnt valuable networking skills.
The Company
Quiet and relaxed but also friendly.
Average, some things were communicated at short notice and a lot of our Learning Sessions were cancelled and not rescheduled.
The company ivested in us by giving us time with senior management to ask questions and have a discussion.
Subsidised Canteen
I have decided not to take a graduate position. This is not a reflection on the employment prospects within the organistaiton but more my personal preference on the type of work I want to do.
The Culture
Yes, we had regular meet ups which we organised amongst ourselves.
Very expensive. I can't afford to live around Canary Wharf. The food is exepnsive, even the subsidiesed canteen is only relatively cheap. Lunch could easily cost £5.
I rarely stayed out late but it was lively.
