The Role
Due to site closure my placement year was very disjointed, moving from one department to another. However in each of the departments I worked in I thoroughly enjoyed the work and learned a lot from it.
Colleagues were extrememly friendly, always happy to help and looked out for me when I was struggling with things. Never did I feel under valued.
Support and guidance were high on my supervisors priority list in all three departments. I haven't felt out of depth with things since starting work here.
There were peaks and troughs in terms of work flow but overall I was allowed to manage my own time. Thus I could pick and choose to a greater extent how much or how little work I did a day. So long as the work got done things were very flexible.
I was involved in a large part of a project, designing, developing and prosecuting a biological assay as a counter screen.
Not just the scientific skills but also the inter and intra-personal skills, time management and other transferrable skills.
The Company
The atmosphere was great, people were relaxed but there was this in built desire to work and get things done. However when departments got told they were shutting people started getting quite angry and upset about things. Not nice being in the middle of it.
Some parts were really well organised, others were not.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Site here is closing down over the next two years. Thus no chance of getting a job.
The Culture
Nice group of people and always stuff going on.
Not the most expensive place I've lived but not the cheapest.
Very little to do in the area without having to travel, transport links back from Canterbury were expensive after midnight (60£ for a taxi for 4!)
Some activities, though you had to really go out of your way to get involved.
