The Role
I really enjoyed working on the project, especially with the nice people I was surrounded by. I learnt some interesting things, learnt about some great innovative ideas and got to try some out.
As a summer placement student, I was given the chance by my line manager as well as other colleagues, to present my work, visit the site and attend important meetings.
As everything I had to do was new to me, I received guidance throughout by the team. Also when I required some assistance, I asked and got help immediately.
I was given tasks to do and organised my time each day to work on each task. Although at times I did not have much to do, on a regular basis it was pretty even.
I was responsible for creating schedules and programmes as well as a method statement, which I would say was a fairly good amount.
Although I have already graduated, I believe some of these skills would help me to a future job such as organisation, communication and experience within meetings, commercial and technical aspects of Tenders.
The Company
It seems busy most of the times, apart from early mornings or Fridays. Colleagues are always communicating and feels like a good atmosphere, however it required a bit more amusement.
Tasks were to be completed each week of the placement by Costain. These were given to us at the beginning of the placement. It seemed quite organised it was quite difficult to keep up with the tasks as well as the tasks given on the project.
Health and safety test for a CSCS card was to be completed as well as a Tunnel safety card test so I could enter the tunnels safely.
Financial Bonus
Travel loan
very appealing, as I hope to stay on after this placement or receive a graduate scheme opportunity.
The Culture
I got along very well with other placement students as we had our own innovation meetings to discuss and also get along.
not too bad
no idea.
there were a few activities after work to get involved.
