    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I feel I have gained a lot of skills and confidence from the role and have enjoyed the experience of being out of university and being within a real business environment. I also found the work I was involved with interesting.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The department was very friendly and everyone is supportive of each other in their roles. I felt that I was doing a real job and was valued as many people in the department relied on my for providing data.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone is willing to help answer questions that you have and to help you in your role. Every undergraduate is also assigned a mentor with whom I could talk about any issues I had, and to help organise any training or other opportunites I wished to experience during my year.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busier some days than others, but didn't often feel like I was far too busy, or that I did not have enough to do. Overall the workload was of a good level.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I was given a real level of responsibility, providing data for many ad hoc requests and monthly meetings attended by several managers in the department.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel I have developed many new skills through the placement, and that I can apply these in my final year at university and after I have graduated.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone in the department was friendly.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement scheme at GM is a large scheme so everyone around understands the situation when you begin your placement and need help settling in at first. There is formal two week handover period, where existing undergraduates teach the new student about the job. The new stduents are also provided with plenty of information from the previous student in their role and from the people that run the undergraduate programme.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Some basic training courses such as Excel and presentation skills were given at the beginning of the placement.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Jobs are offered to several graduates per year who have done a placement with the company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a large number of placement students at the company, so there was a lot of socialisng, however it is unfortunately largely focused on drinking and can be rather cliquey.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Housing was not too expensive and cheaper than it had been for me at university, with bills included.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton only has one club (Liquid), which is not very good.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Undergraduates go out often.

    3/5
