The Role
My summer placement with the role of Project Support Co-ordinator has been fantastic! I was given so many opportunties to learn and develop throughout the 10 weeks I have been here. My network has grown more than I imagined and I have become so much more employable. I feel I have grown as an individual and really added value to the business.
I feel I have been truly valued by my colleagues and well respected. I was given the opportunity to take part in many teleconferences and my inputs were always taken on board. Senior members of the team such as the Lead Project Manger even took time to review my work and really appreciated the effort I have put in. My colleagues have shown their appreciation throughout the 10 weeks and really recognise the outcomes of my placement.
My manager and colleagues were always around to support me. The culture in British Gas is truly amazing! I could turn to anyone for help, support and guidance,.
The work load I had at first felt quite scary if I'm honest. I never thought I would be able to get it done on time. However, I was wrong as I went deeper into the placement my skills and knowledge really developed and I began to really understand and grasp the project I was working on. I was given opportunties to complete the Six Sigma course which really allowed me to understand tools and models I needed to use. Hence, I didnt only complete my project but was also given the opportunity to complete a Six Sigma course which kept me busier than ever.
I was given huge responsibility working part of a £1.2m project. I was expected to create, structure and co-ordinate exactly how we can communicate with our frontline employees and how we can ensure a smooth transition. I was given the responsibility to create a plan that would make or break the whole project. My responsibility was huge as failing to deliver this project and really understanding our frontline staff with the support of key stakeholders this would cost the business a lot of money to fix the problem I created.
I have developed so much as an individual through feedback and advice of experienced professionals to make me a better professional. I have undertaken Six Sigma courise which is about process improvement not only in BG but within all businesses. These tools and models really allows me to work on projects with confidence and understanding of key areas that need to be consiered. These skills and knowledge makes me so much more employable in the future!
The Company
The atmosphere reflects the business culture and is always 'buzzing.' The teams around me are always jolly and like one big family. The support and relationships you build are truly heart warming and makes you really love going into work every morning. The expectatons are there ofcourse to complete your tasks but in such a friendly, jolly environment it is truly enjoyable.
The very begining once I applied the process to hearing was quite slow. However, once I got in to the business it was well organised and had clear structure. I knew exactly what was expected of me. I was expected to use inititiave ofcourse but that comes with the role. I was always kept informed of updates and changes throughout.
The company really invested in me to develop and learn as an individual. I visited so many different sites, I took part in training sessions e.g. 'More Than Words' which is presentaton training and I even completed a Six Sigma course. This demonstrates in just 10 weeks I was given so many opportunities to develop and grow as an individual.

Company Parties/Events
The company is always recruiting and growing. There are loads of opportunities to move around and experience different areas of the business especially with thw graduate scheme. Ftantastc opportunities and id you work hard enough potential opportunitites of promotion too!
The Culture
The placement offered a really good social scene. We took part is social activities when we all meet up organised by the business e.g. football tournements. We really get the chance to make new friends and get to know each other to become friends beyond the 10 weeks. It's really full of fun outside of work hours.
The area I lived in was Leicester and so expenses was not an issue. Food, drinks and even going to the local cinemas etc is standard prices everywhere else.
I cannot advise you on this as I do not 'party' but I have heard theres really good places around Leicester and at good prices.
Yes, we had the opportunity to take part in charity work and social events with all the other placement students to really build relationships and have fun together. We took part in great team activities like rock climbling and football tournements,
