The Role
I very much enjoyed my summer internship here. It is rather well-structured and all-round, including a number of seminars, workshops and shadowing sessions apart from daily work.
Having no IT risk management experience before, I received help from my colleagues on a daily basis. From basic risk management concepts to actual action support, my colleagues walked me through all these patiently. My manager also gave my wide exposure to different high profile projects in my division where I had to cooperate with several senior managers. I felt rather fortunate to be given all these opportunity as an intern.
Even though my manager was based in a different office, he still regularly spoke to me online to see if I needed help and provided me with lots of guiding documents. One of my colleagues who was also my supervisor in one project spent some time almost every day to help me with some basic concepts of the projects and ensure I was on track, despite her demanding timetable.
I was involved in multiple projects in the same timeframe so I could be quite busy making sure every projects were on the right track.
As aforementioned, I was given wide exposure to different high profile projects in my division where I had to cooperate with several senior managers. These projects were not only important within the firm but also very time sensitive. I felt that I had made quite an accomplishment.
Throughout my internship, most of the projects I was involved in were not very technical but required lots of human interactions. I believe that these soft skills will undoubtedly help me with my future studies and career since communication is crucial in today's world. Besides, these skills are more transferrable compared to technical skills for which requirements may differ amongst different companies or industries.
The Company
Everyone in my office was very friendly and willing to help. My colleagues all seemed passionate about their roles too. Therefore the atmosphere was quite peaceful and positive.
It was rather well structured, with a good balance between the daily work side and the softer side on which we were invited to a number of internship seminars and networking events.
Although everyone had a very demanding schedule at the firm, they were all willing to walk me through what I wanted to know about the company and gave me support not only from a daily work perspective but also on the career networking-building side.

The organisation offers a wide range of opportunities. Employees are encouraged to move across different roles within or even outside they current divisions. It provides a great exposure to the business and allows employees to contribute to the firm in different ways.
The Culture
Yes, we were invited to various social events throughout our internships and I had built some really good friendships.
London is expensive afterall.
Central London - enough said.
Yes, in my division the work-life balance concept was quite realisable. UBS also regularly organised social events for fellow employees.
