The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement with Centrica , I was able to learn and develop a lot of technical skills (e.g. SAP) as well as soft skills (e.g. my presentation skills when I undertook the Tone of Voice workshop). This skills will be essential when working within a corporate environment .
I really felt valued by my colleagues , I was guided then trusted to undertake a lot of projects which added value to the firm. In addition, I was trusted to support and later on lead meetings with senior stakeholders .
I was given a lot of support whilst undertaking my placement. My supervisor and I had weekly meetings, she was really approachable and showed interest in my personal development by suggesting what workshops I could undertake in order to drive my personal development .
I was fairly busy, I had weekly meetings with my supervisor where my end of week deliverables were highlighted and discussed. The fact that I was busy on a daily basis meant I was able to develop a range of new skills.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility which involved being able to stare the different projects I was involved in. In addition, my responsibilities included being able to interact with senior stakeholders when leading interviews in order to gather their requirements for the different deliverables I was producing.
I was provided with a lot of personal development training courses whilst on placement which for example enabled me to improve my stakeholder management skills as well as my presentation skills (e.g.Tone of Voice workshop). In addition, I was provided with a lot of technically focused training such as the Excel workshops . This meant that I was able to gain a lot of transferable skills which will be essential when working within any corporate organisation.
The Company
The general atmosphere was great within the office, I was able to converse with my colleagues regarding other topics besides the on going projects which made the office vibe very lively.
The work placement was well organised, in the induction session we were provided within a clear outline of the entire summer placement programme, which highlighted the different days which we would be undertaken personal and technical development workshops.
We were encouraged to undertake a range of different personal training and development courses in order to ensure that we possessed the skills required to undertake the different projects we were involved in.

The organisation highlighted their emphasis in ensuring that the develop junior personal by organising a range of personal and technical workshops in order to ensure that they are able to internally develop future leaders who will steer the firm, hence why I am really keen in applying to the graduate scheme.
The Culture
There was a great social scene within the placement students, for example I went out to dinner with other fellow placement students and developed more of a social bound which was not centered around work.
The cost of living within the local area was fairly cheap, the accomodation was paid for by the firm , which meant I had additional cash to travel and explore London.
The nightlife in the local area was alright and easy access to London meant that I was able to see lots of local attractions during my weekends.
The development team within the firm organised a range of social activities like the social evening which meant we were able to socialise with different interns within the different streams in a more social setting.
