The Role
Really enjoyed working on a project with like-minded people. I learned many things that aren't taught at university and made connections between theory and real world applications.
Throughout the course of the placement I developed a strong working relationship with my colleagues.
I had 2 dedicated line managers who helped me with administrative tasks as well as providing me with projects to work on.
I worked on several projects though there was some down time allowing me to get to know my colleagues better.
I took charge of a small low risk project throughout the placement but, understandably had less responsibility when contributing to bigger projects.
What I've learned on placement couldn't be learned in the lecture theatre. It has opened my mind to the links between what I learn at university and real life engineering applications. This knowledge will be invaluable when I transition from university life to full time work.
The Company
A friendly atmosphere amongst my colleagues who had all been working together in the industry for some time.
The placement followed a specific structure outlined at the start, however there was still some flexibility.
I took part in a Site & Safety Induction and several colleagues dedicated significant time to ensuring I learned as much as possible.

I would love to secure a graduate position with Costain.
The Culture
I was the only placement student on site. My social involvement didn't extend far past the workplace though I still developed strong bonds with close co-workers.
Very reasonable cost of living/socialising.
Great night-life, opportunities to go out on any day of the week if that's what you fancy.
Was involved in a few charity events in which my colleagues partook.
