The Role
This internship was a good introduction to the company and the work that I was given was interesting. I was offered lots of opportunities to explore different areas of the business and of the department and felt very comfortable working within the team.
I felt very welcomed by the team and had the impression that they really appreciated the help that I provided during a busy time for them. This was the first time they had an intern working in their team and they were very eager for me to get involved with as much as possible during my time
I was given a good amount of support by my manager, whilst also being left on my own to get on with the tasks that I was set. My manager always made me aware that she was available if I needed any help with anything and it was good to have that support there.
There was rarely a day where I came into work without having focus on what I had to achieve during the day. I was involved with a variety of tasks with different time frames which ensured that there was always something for me to be getting on with. When there was less for me to do, somebody else in the team could always do with some extra support
For the main project that I was working on, I was left to perform the task however I saw fit and present my findings of my analysis however I wanted. My manage was there for support but made clear that it was entirely up to me how I did it, as long as I met the deadlines!
I learnt a lot about working in a corporate environment and what to expect from a full time job. Although what I was working on was interesting, I also realised that I don't think I could handle working in this sort of area for an extended period of time, purely because it didn't perfectly suit my interests.
The Company
The people in my team were fun but often very busy, so conversation during the day was fairly limited. However, there was a good professional support network within the team and the team was sociable when given the opportunity to be.
The internship was organised very well, with clear objectives set out for me and clear tasks to complete by certain stages of the internship. The majority of admin had been done before my arrival so I could get stuck into the job early on.
There were lots of additional opportunities during my internship to learn about other areas of the business. At one point, I was allowed to travel to London to visit the Digital division and find out more about that because that was an area which interested me. My team were very flexible in allowing me to do things like this.

Working from home
Although my internship was interesting and enjoyable, I can't see myself working in a job like this when I graduate as I feel I would get bored after a length of time. However, I have another internship with the company next summer in a different division, so there may be employment prospects there!
The Culture
The provided accommodation for the interns was very unsociable as we were in studio apartments in different areas of the building to everyone else. However, there were some nice people working alongside me and there were plenty of opportunities to socialise with the other interns.
If you want to socialise, you can find the funds to be able to do so. A few interns didn't socialise as much as others, but there were cheap places around the place if you could find them.
At the weekends it is very good, being situated really close to Stokes Croft which is a hub of Bristol weekend night life. However during the week, there are limited places to go as it is a university town and there aren't many students around during the summer.
