The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship at Lloyds because it has allowed me to recognise the importance of digital in a company. I was placed in the Service Capability & Performance team and my role has been working in Planning and Analytics. I come from a creative background, currently studying Modern Languages at UCL, and I think being placed in an analytical, numerical role has given me valuable skills for the future.
Having been given a lot of responsibility throughout my internship, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects and interact with a lot of members of the team. I therefore feel, that all interns have been highly valued by our colleagues because we have been working on 'real-life' projects which make a difference to the firm.
I think that the support that LBG offers is fantastic. Obviously, I spent a lot of time working with my line manager, so I have delevoped a strong relationship with them. Additionally, LBG have a great mentoring system where you are paired up with a "buddy". A buddy is a recent graduate to the firm who is essentially our informal point of contact. My buddy has provided me with useful advice and tips for the graduate scheme. Every week, LBG also has drop in sessions for interns and graduates. This gives us the opportunity to discuss any problems/queries that we may have.
Compared to other interns, I was working on tasks which had to be completed daily, as opposed to working on long-term projects. Therefore, I had a different schedule almost every week (aside from Monday's weekly trading). Being set a variety of tasks, kept me very busy on a daily basis. Despite having lots of work, I also made time to meet with my buddy, attend charity challenge meetings and work on extra projects. Although, I had a lot of work to do, the internship has definitely improved my time management skills.
As an intern, I was surprised with how much responsibility I was given during my placement. Although this may sound scary, it was a great opportunity to see how the bank operates within Group Digital. An example of high responsibility is when my manager was on leave for a week and I had to essentially do their role in their absence. It was quite exciting because several colleagues came up to me with questions and I was able to answer them confidently! Another example is when I had to create an end to end journey dashboard. This project was set by another colleague within my team, and I had to gather lots of data from several colleagues. This project gave me the freedom and responsibility to time manage my tasks and prioritise what data was the most important.
As mentioned above, I come from a creative background because I study Modern Languages. I highly believe that my excel skills have improved because I have been analysing data and creating many dashboards. Moreover, my communication skills have improved because the projects that I have been working on have allowed me to interact and speak with a lot of colleagues on different levels.
The Company
The atmosphere was not what I had expected for a bank. Group Digital had a relaxed and fun environment. The open desk units and lack of cubicles allowed colleagues to interact freely with each other.
The internship was organised very well. We had several induction events where we were provided with detailed information for the placement.
I believe that my line manager's aim was to include me in as many projects as possible, in order to improve my personal development. Due to the variety of projects that I have been involved in, I think that LBG tried to get the most out of us to we could showcase our skills.

I would love to work in Group Digital in the future, as I have seen what the daily lives of colleagues are like. The internship has certainly motivated me to pursue a career within the digital and financial sector, as I have come to appreciate the importance of digital in a company.
The Culture
The interns would try to arrange weekly drinks and play ping pong at the office on Fridays so that we could get to know eachother. The end of months drinks were good because I was able to meet more people around the office. The charity challenge also gave us the opportunity to become closer to other interns.
I lived at home, so I only had to pay for travel. The cost of socialising/eating in the area is relatively high as we are working in central London. However, there is a local Tescos nearby where I would visit sometimes.
During the internship, I did not usually go out near the office. However, the club 'Fabric' is nearby.
Aside from completing tasks from my manager, I have also taken on other projects set from members of my team. I have worked closely on creating an end to end journey dashboard for domestic payments. This project was a great opportunity to meet with other members of the team. I have also worked with another colleage on my team, on a project on agile working. I have shadowed the UX team in Consumer Digital for one day. I believe my day in shadowing the UX team was a great way to see how LBG deliver excellent customer service.
