The Role
A very enjoyable placement, being placed in a team and being given work that was valued and used by the team. It was interesting getting to know different areas of work within KPMG, and meeting people from different industries and backgrounds.
The work I was able to complete was added to the project, and as there was a shortage in the group at the time, I was able to gain more responsibility within the team. My colleagues assisted in my work, and gave me guidance when needed.
Regular meetings, team talks, presentations and group training all worked together to ensure that I was guided sufficiently. I was given a buddy, who helped me whilst I was in the team, and lead members of the internship organised social events weekly.
Work schedules were varied, but I was busy for the majority of the day. There was always something that needed to be done, as we were working towards a deadline, but sometime you would have to ask for more work when needed.
A large amount of responsibility was given to me due to my technical experience and abilities. I was able to replace members of my team that left for holidays, allowing the project to progress at a rate that was above what was expected.
The technical coding skills that I learnt will be very helpful in the future, increasing my interest in the technical side of projects. I also developed my presentation and networking skills due to the vast number of social and professional networking events.
The Company
A very positive atmosphere, with everyone willing to talk and value your opinion within every project. Being a very open office atmosphere it was easy to find out information that you needed, and get quality contact time with partners.
Very well organised once I was placed in my team. Being assigned a buddy to give me work, and a manager that was able to help with my guidance and professional development whilst I was there.
Lots of time and money, being able to complete online training and sign up to training that interested me. There was also the ability to talk to members of the training team about personal development in the future.

Very appealing prospects with development available from a very early stage. Progression was based on achievement and working hard would be rewarded. There was a range of members of management at different ages.
The Culture
There was a strong social scene, organised by graduates within the firm, and also by the interns themselves. With at least two events each week, and a number of dinners included within projects and sections of the business.
Being based in London, both living and socialising were expensive, but that was as to be expected. Moving outside of Canary Wharf you can find socialising at a much cheaper price, and the travel was worth it.
Nightlife was reasonably good in the area, but much better when moving into different areas of the city. There were countless places to go out, areas to go for drinks, and restaurants to get food from.
There was a wide range of activities that could completed outside of work, that were organised by the company, and organised by the interns. Being proactive was key to getting engaged in these activities.
