    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fabulous- fun people, enjoyable work, well structured- excellent

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • V. friendly people who helped you settle straight away. Always happy to help.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Having a trainee buddy and a supervisor ensured I had lots of support if I was unsure on a task, and even if these people were unavailable there was always someone in the department who would only be too happy to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Plenty of interesting work to do, so it was never dull, but not too much so I was staying until ridiculous-o'clock in the evenings.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Was given lots of tasks involving calling external clients on behalf of the firm- v.exciting and interesting!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt tips and tricks on Westlaw/ Lexis which will help with my academic study. Also,as I was sat in a department where I had no prior legal knowledge, I learnt a lot about a new area of law too!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Always a really good laugh with lots of biscuits and tea runs- quiet and serious when necessary, but people always willing to have a quick chat and the environment was very friendly, from partners right down to PA's.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A few minor hitches which didn't realistically alter the flow of the whole program. Practice talks gave excellent insight into the firmwide operations, whereas working in a fixed department for two weeks gave you a real feel for how each department operates and what is involved there. Excellent overall.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Asked me to think about what I wanted to gain from the placement on the first day, and did all within their power to try to ensure I could do that, which was good. They invested a lot of time, for which I am grateful.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Good chance of obtaining a training contract from the firm, although it does depend on how you fit with them and whether they see you to fit in the organisation, and also the calibre of the other candidates which is understandable. Will genuinely be upset if my placement has been unsuccessful as it has been a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • By the end of the week all the vacation scheme students bonded fantastically well. Had planned socials which were well thought through and enjoyable. No pressure to stay out until very late, and they were trainees planning the events were understanding about that, which created a very relaxed environment where we all had a lot fo fun.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of commuting in to work but the firm funded all of our social events which was fantastic.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good if you wanted it to be- although if you needed to leave early due to commuting (like myself) this too wasn't a problem and people didn't mind if you couldnt be out all night which was nice.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A few social events- depended a little on the department you were in and what was going on, although the vac schemers did do some of our own socialising which was nice. Difficult to do anything else e.g. CSR as not been CBR checked.
