The Role
The team I was working with was great and the events held in the evenings by Deloitte were amazing but the work itself was not challenging or particularly interesting.
The project I was on was not suited to my skillset and so there were very few contributions I could make.
The support I received from my team was very good; I never felt as though I was left on my own.
I was often bored and had nothing to do and found myself repeatedly asking for more work.
I was given very limited responsibility within my team, given that the project was not an area I had previously indicated an interest in.
I did learn useful skills such as how to handle running a meeting and how to manage a project, although these were not in any way linked to my degree studies or areas which I had indicated a specific interest in.
The Company
The atmosphere was good on the whole, although many of the senior managers/partners remained very quiet and did not engage with the rest of the team on a regular basis.
The internship was relatively well organised. The paperwork was slightly delayed leading up to our internship however all questions were on the whole handled punctually.
It was clear that the firm had invested a lot into taking us on, and so it was clear that they wanted us to remain for a full time position. However this was not executed in the best way possible.
Company Parties/Events
The organisation is obviously successful and a very good company to work for. However, from witnessing the roles of graduate positions within my team, it appears to be the case that many years would have to be invested into the organisation before a truly rewarding, engaging and challenging role within the company could be attained.
The Culture
There were many social events during the internship and this aspect of networking and meeting employees from within the organisation was handled very well.
Being in Lonon, the cost is obviously high, however, all the Deloitte social events and evenings were fully paid for by the company and so the cost was not as high as I was expecting.
The nightlife in the area of work (Chancery Lane) was very good (especially since it was all paid for), however would have been expensive, had Deloitte not paid for everything,
There were many events held by the company and so many opportunities to get involved with various sports teams etc..
