The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I was given tasks and responsibilities that made a real impact in my area. My team were very supportive and friendly. It was a highly valuable way to learn about what life is like working for a bank.
I felt highly valued by my collegues. I recieved a lot of positive feedback from management. My opinion was listened too by all. I was able to attend a lot of team meetings in which I was encouraged to participate.
The management were highly supportive. I had weekly one to one sessions with my line manager to check on my progress, and a formal mid point and final review. Management were also very willing to help me make connections and build a successful network in the business to support my future career aspirations.
I had a good amount of work to do. I worked 9 - 5 each day, without having to do overtime. There were some periods where I would have liked more work to do, but this was mostly due to managers being away on holiday.
I was given lots of responsibilities throughout my placement. I was able to coordinate a review within my department and drove forward a training initiative. I was trusted to get on with my own work and report back to managers to inform them of my progress.
I study an unrelated degree, Biology, so this internship will not help me directly. However the internship has helped me develop a wide range of business skills which will help me in my future career.
The Company
There was a very friendly and supportive atmosphere. All of my colleagues were very approachable. The group values were implemented at all time, aiming to drive the bank to be the best bank for customers.
The internship was well organised. We had an opening event at the Excel Centre in London, allowing us to get to know other interns as well as what we can expect on our internship and what they expect of us. Our line managers also had to meet with us once a week to ensure we were well supported.
I felt the company invested well in me. I had plenty of one to one time with my line managers, as well as managers in other divisions I was interested in. I did not have any specific training, it was all learning on the job and through observation.

Future job prospects are very appealing. 75% of interns are offered a place on the Graduate Scheme off the back of the internship. I would like to take up the offer if I can switch my scheme to a different area.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the interns. Lloyds provide free accomadation in London so around 60 interns are living all in the same building, creating a very social atmosphere. There were few interns in my office so there was not a great social scene whilst at work.
Living, working and socialising in central London is very expensive. However Lloyds provide free accomadation near Kings Cross, making the experience much more affordable. Lloyds also provide a 18k pro rata salary which more than covers costs.
The nightlife was great. There are endless options in central London.
We are all in teams competing in the charity challenge to raise money for Children In Need.
