The Role
I found the particular line of work very interesting and thought the work environment very relaxed and supportive. I was lucky enough to be an area that had a large variety of work, which could vary based on current international events. This meant it was always quite interesting and varied the challenge.
I felt at the beginning like it was going to be a struggle to be valued by my team because they were busy and didn't have time to teach me things. This changed over the internship and I was given more responsibility as time passed and really began assisting the team, which I was infomed and felt was valued by them.
They provided great support and were always happy to answer questions or explain things to me. I found this incredibly useful and think it helped me get up to speed with the requirements of the role. In a team that is so busy I really appreciate the time that they managed to find to assist me grow my knowledge.
It was hugely variable, at the beginning I was barely doing anything (lack of structure to the program), at other times there was a lot to do, but I never felt like there was too much to do. I did at times have to seek work out or work on other little projects that I had agreed to do, but there was definetely times I just had to sit and read things.
I think I was given a lot of responsibilty, at least no less than any other member of the team. I also was given resposnsibilty for driving new ideas forward and these things have been adopted by the team and will be used into the future, which I think is great and makes me feel like I made an impact in the business.
I think mainly I developed MS office and excel skills, which will be useful in my career choice because it seems in the industry it is a highly regarded skill. I also learned how products work in the real world rather than the theoretically, which is huge in understanding banking risk in the real world.
The Company
Quiet and at times could hear a pin drop. Mainly family orientated people and so not the most social after work.
Lacked structure to begin with and lacked organised events for interns to event and mingle.
Provided training in some key areas for my team and provided access to LBG learning website and materials.
They have a good track record as a graduate employer and most graduates I have met like it. Lots of oppotunity to experience all areas of the bank.
The Culture
Very average. Hard to organise people to meet and most unwilling. Disappointing overall.
Expensive, it's London.
Lots of pubs, not far to the party areas though.
A few. I got invited to a number of events outside of my team, but within my team there wasn't many things to go to.
