The Role
I absolutely loved it! I couldn't have asked for a better placement. Each and every day I was using the skills that I'd learned on my degree course. I loved having the power to decide which items Debenhams stores would be stocking.
My colleagues were great. They gave me enough freedom to make decisions on my own but also gave me enough guidance so that I didn't feel out of my depth.
The management team were incredible too. They were always on hand if I needed anything. I was also in regular contact with the main manager and discussed my progress with him weekly.
I had enough work to keep me motivated without feeling too under pressure. I appreciated that the manager understood that I could only do my best and sometimes that meant that I took my time with things and my workload built up.
My team were responsible for making sure that Debenhams' stock continued to be of a high quality so I think that we had a lot of responsibility within the company. If we'd have slacked then perhaps the company wouldn't still be as successful as it currently is.
The placement really helped me with the last year of my degree. I graduated with a better degree class because of the placement for sure.
The Company
People were friendly and happy most of the time. It was definitely a nice atmosphere to work in.
Very well. It was quick and easy which is all you can ask for really.
I definitely felt like the company supported me and had placed a lot of trust in me. But I never received any personal training. I had to rely on the skills that I had learned at university.
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I haven't received a job offer from the company but I would gladly work there. It's a great organization to work for.
The Culture
Whilst everyone was friendly, my colleagues were definitely more concerned with their work than making friends. There wasn't many chances to socialize at all.
Living in London is crazily expensive. If you decided to live in the city center then you can forget about having a social life.
On the rare night out that I had, I found London to be an incredible night out. I loved the vast selection of bars and clubs.
There wasn't many opportunities. Throughout my whole placement I could count the number of social events I was invited to on one hand.
