Associate in Audit, Deloitte Summer Vacation Scheme Review

I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my time in Audit at Deloitte Southampton, given that beforehand I didn't really know what audit entailed. I really did have a good time working there and the 3 weeks flew by.

I definitely felt valued while working at Deloitte. Being untrained and inexperienced I obviously wasn't able to do some of the work others were doing but I never felt like they were just giving me the really simple stuff to do. I felt like a proper member of their team.

The scheme was very well organised with respect to training and guidance. On the first day I was provided with all the basic knowledge I needed and when I needed more specific information on how to complete tasks or just had general questions (which was often) everyone I worked with was extremely helpful and patient.

The scheme meant working in teams a lot, and so it had developed the way I work in a group, something that is very important in both my degree and life in general. I became better over the 3 weeks at following instructions but also at working out what to do if I was a little unsure with a process. Also there were a lot of client facing aspects to the job and so I have certainly developed in my ability to interact with people professionally in a working environment.

The scheme was very well structured. I moved around to work on a variety of different projects with different people and I never felt at a loose end. There was always a plan for what I was going to be doing for the next few days, where I would and who I'd be with.

The atmosphere was excellent throughout. The Southampton office in general is helped by being relatively small so every knows each other and gets on well. Also the majority of the people I was working with were in their early 20s, which I found made it very easy to settle into being around them, seeing as we were reasonably close in age. Everyone had a sense of humour and instead of just sitting in silence there was lots of conversation, even though everyone was working hard.

A lot. Before I started the scheme there was an induction for everyone taking part from all round the country and then the first day in the office was all training and familiarising us with what we'd be doing.

Despite being short, I feel I now have a real idea for what working at Deloitte would be like. They aimed to move me around so I saw lots of aspects of audit and met lots of the employees and completed a variety of tasks.

I think I managed to acquire a good understanding of the company culture over the scheme. The people I was working with were very open about what they thought of their jobs and working for Deloitte and the company itself is very clear about its pursuit of quality.

Whereas before the scheme I had virtually no idea what I wanted to do, now I've completed it I would definitely be interested in working in audit or a similar field. Working there day to day showed me that this would be an enjoyable place to start my career.

The pay for the scheme was very generous and expenses to were reimbursed which was good considering there was a significant amount of travel to client sites involved.

Right at the start, at the induction event, we had an opportunity to meet all the people who like me were taking part in the scheme from the offices all around the country. Furthermore I was taken out for a meal by members of the office on multiple occasions, including once with clients, and on the last day an evening drinks event was organised in a near by bar. After completing the internship I was invited to the office summer party where it was nice to see the people I had worked with again and also meet both of the partners based in the Southampton office.

Good. Everyone in the office seemed to get on and enjoy socialising together but equally I felt very welcomed despite not having known anyone for very long. All the social events were well organised and enjoyable.

Many of the guys in the office played football together every week and had even been to Prague together to play in a tournament and 2 members of the office had climbed Kilimanjaro together. Overall everyone seemed to have plenty going on away from work.

I would and I have. It was interesting, well organised, extremely informative and enriching as well as being well paid. I had a great experience over the 3 weeks.
