The Role
I found the placement very useful, both in terms of knowledge/skills gained and supporting my post-university career.
I have received a large number of positive comments, and found the work atmosphere very encouraging.
My manager was supportive and could always offer guidance, although I had plenty of opportunity to work independently.
There was lack of work iitially as my software was not installed on Day 1, but from then on was generally good.
As I was in a 2-man team, I had plenty of responsibilities.
I have not yet completed my degree but I feel that my placement has been beneficial, both to completing my degree and my career beyond university.
The Company
It was encouraging and stimulating.
The induction process could be improved, but the majority of the placement went smoothly.
They ensured that I went on training courses designed for permanent staff, and that I was able to acheive my personal objectives. They also gave me university sponsorship and paid Summer work.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I have Summer placements with them whilst at university, plus invitation to apply to them after university.
The Culture
Several of us worked at National Grid and we had good social lives.
Easily affordable on our salaries.
Some good places, although some undesirable places also.
There were many opportunites available, through the company as well as the nearby Warwick university and self-provided opportunities.
