The Role
Really enjoyed the placement I was given and people in my team were very helpful and welcoming.
Colleagues made me feel valued and respected with good level of responsibility given
I was supported well during the beginning of the internship whilst I learnt what to do. I was given regularly feedback on work completed about what was positive and what could be improved
I had a very good balance of having plenty of work to do but not feeling overwhelmed. I was able to work standard hours of 9-5 most days.
Given the appropriate amount of responsibility for a 10 week internship. Cannot expect to be 'running the show' but was able to complete work by myself to be second looked by my coach/line manager
Have gained good knowledge which will be useful in future career but unlikely to assist in my degree studies
The Company
People in the office were friendly and approachable. Not a huge amount of conversation as everybody worked fairly autonomously, but everybody was happy to help me and each other when needed.
Only found out a month before the start of the internship where I would be located, which made it difficult to find accommodation. Weren't told which area of Risk would be interning in until the induction. Once the internship started it was well organised and my line manager created a timetable of what I would be doing each week.
Attended an excel training session during induction and my first week in the office was predominately completing online training to prepare for the role. Able to shadow other areas of the bank outside of Risk. Also had access to external training such as Harvard Online and Get Abstract
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Really enjoyed working within the company and the atmosphere in the offices.
The Culture
Yes, many of the interns were staying in the same accommodation block so socialised well
Living was not cheap in Edinburgh due to the internship coninciding with Fringe festival, but still cheaper than London
Plenty of bars/clubs
Went on a team night out
