The Role
Really enjoyed the hands-on experience that RBS had to offer with their internship. Working in technology gave me a lot of insight into the bank's technical systems and infrastructure.
My colleagues made me feel very valued. I was frequently given a lot of work by them and made to feel like I was contributing to important projects.
My line manager offered a lot of insightful advice and guidance throughout the duration of the internship. We met up and communicated very frequently which created visibility of what progress each other was making with work.
I was kept regularly busy with work being assigned by my team and by the Early Careers team. Towards the last week, the workload dropped a little bit but this allowed me to do a bit more shadowing and research within/outwith my immediate team.
I was given considerable responsibility during the internship - there was a lot of owness put on the interns to complete all assignments, meet tight immovable deadlines and find ways of working well as a team.
The internship allowed me develop some of the operational and technical skills that I have developed during my time in higher education. Particularly my project management skills have developed immensely and this will be invaluable for my final year projects at university.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly. My team were all very close and made efforts to interact and meet up outside of the office. They made me feel very welcome when I first arrived in the team and by the end of the placement I felt very close to all of them.
I think the major projects running within the internship scheme were well set up and organized. The deadlines between the project, presentation and charity even were very close together and could maybe have been spaced out a bit better.
RBS have a number of fantastic training tools and frameworks which every employee has access to. The actual intern project served as a great learning tool as it forced us to go out and research the bank, our team and functions for ourselves.

RBS are really invested in their internship and graduate programmes and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. This year was the largest pool of interns they have taken in the last 5 years and they will continue to recruit in mass.
The Culture
The interns in Edinburgh socialised regularly. Particularly those who were living in the town. As someone who lived at home for the duration of the internship I probably missed out on a lot of the social gatherings of the interns.
Free! I lived at home. Cost of travel and socialising was reasonable.
Edinburgh has a fantastic nightlife, especially in August with the Fringe.
Yes, the festival offered so many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work.
