    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I found the internship a good experience. I learnt a lot about the function and the role of the team and was given a good level of responsibility whilst on the placement. In relation to this I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was given independent work to complete and given responsibility. I was a good experience and I enjoyed the location in Scotland a lot more than I thought I would.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues and this was the best part of the internship. From day 1 I was treated as one of the team and trusted to take part in all aspects of the team. They not only spent time helping me understand but also spent time to get to know me 1 to 1 on a friendly basis. I was treated like a permanent member and includes in everything the team did including the team away day.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager, and his boss, were very helpful and supported me throughout the internship taking time to explain things to me and include me in what they were doing. This was occasionally limited due to holidays but contact was maintained throughout. I felt supported throughout the ten weeks. I felt that communication from the Early Careers could have been better in order to have greater support for both myself and my line manager- as sometimes I had to explain things to him.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It changed depending on the week and the project I was working on. I was given a lot of responsibility and different responsibilities, having to talk and meet with many different people. The majority of my time between 9-5 was filled with work. The intern project also filled other available time. Some days I had limited amounts to do but there was an extensive amount of eleaning to complete which was very helpful. This meant that I never had nothing to do and that actually gained certificates for what I achieved.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For an internship I think I was given a good level of responsibility. For the first 5 weeks I didnt have that much and believe I could have been given more sooner. However in this time I was able to learn alot about the function I was in and therefore was very well prepared when given responsibility. This meant I successful at completing high quality work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • High levels of elearning available with GPL modules, Harvard Manage Mentor and Skillport. This meant i completed qualifications in relation to ethics, communication and time management. This will be very helpful for my career as are useable skills for whatever I decide to do. Very impressed with what I was provided with both in relation to function and other skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team's part of the office had an excellent atmosphere. It was a good mix of hard work as well as fun communication and friendly talking. This meant I felt I got to know my colleagues on a personal level and helped me feel comfortable going into work on a day to day basis. Other parts of the office were very quiet and when I shadowed there were offices which were not as friendly. However the overall atmopshere of the office was good and friendly.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was left to be organised by my line manager who had limited understanding of how skilled I was in the area and what I wished to complete until I arrived. This delayed him being able to plan projects that I undertook. The overall placement was well organised with the induction but importantly did not find out about location which made booking accommodation diffciult, During the fringe this was made very difficult. The one day end of placement event wa shard to get to from 5 hours away.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Good levels of commitment but lacking strong view of next steps.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Reputation is still limited however storng opportunities to grow in this company with sideway movement encouraged. I would be interested in looking into future opportunities with the company but would want organisation of graduate programme to be clearer.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Excellent. Biggest benefit of being placed in Edinburgh was the social element as everyone lived in same halls. Great night life and the FRINGE made it excellent. Lots of bars, clubs and shows to be involved in.

    5/5

    3/5
