The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement - you get a great balance of project work, charity initiative and also work set by your line manager. The area I was placed in (production support tech), I didn't initially feel I would be able to succeed however, 10 weeks later I have learnt its an area I really enjoy and would like to gain further experience in.
All colleagues were really supportive and helpful and were keen to give us feedback on our work to ensure it was in line with our goals. I have felt part of a team and not a temporary member of staff which has been fantastic.
My manager was incredibly supportive and encouraged me to ask as many questions as I wanted to which really aided my development. We weren't given too much guidance but this enabled us to explore and learn for ourselves which I found more valuable.
In a day I rarely had "free time" but I equally never felt pressured on time which for me, meant I was never bored or looking for work but equally didn't find the experience stressful.
I was given lots of small responsibilities which gave me the opportunity to show organisation and capability.
I wish I had done a placement like this earlier as I now feel going into my final year that I have a different outlook and skills to take over to my studies.
The Company
There was no negativity - everyone works together and is happy but equally get their work done in a timely manner.
The program had a great structure - I'd recommend it to anyone, in fact, I already have. The calendar of events was really clear and useful and there was a clear structure throughout the 10 weeks.
We had formal training of a week at the beginning of the internship which set us up for the 9 weeks. i also received informal training from other colleagues and attended internal events on agile work practices which were really useful.
Subsidised Canteen
There is the opportunity to be offered a place next year on the grad scheme and if not, my manager encouraged me to keep i n contact with people I have met who may be able to give support in the future
The Culture
I've made a great group of friends
It was expensive but of course, it's up to you how much you spend
There are loads of volunteering opportunities and social clubs you are able to join
