    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship. RBS is a great company to work for and there were lots of opportunities to learn and get involved with the work going on in the bank.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt part of the team and there was always support when I needed it.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was away on holiday for 5 weeks and my second line manager was away for 2 weeks. Therefore, there was inconsistency in the management which made it difficult to get the right guidance and support for the work I was given.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Time management was never a problem at RBS. I felt I was in control of all my deliverables.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for my own deliverables however a chance to take on more tasks would have aided my development.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I not only obtained and developed technical and soft skills but also realised what skills and knowledge I would need for the future. This has given me direction for my studies and beyond.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It wasn't Google but working at RBS was never dull. It was a very dynamic environment with lots of opportunities to learn. Everyone was very friendly and approachable.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At the very start, I thought it was very disorganised as I had no idea where to go on the first day. I would have expected an email with the details on the first day. However, I had to go out of my way to find out where I was going. RBS HR were also very late in organising the intern project teams. Given that RBS is a very large organisation, I would have expected the HR department to be more organised and imaginative with the structure of the internship. However, this was not the case in my experience.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very good at the start of the intern, but I never felt prepared for my placement. I would have expected more specialised training rather being left to figure out for myself.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The grad scheme seems like a great opportunities.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I made many good friends in my department. However, I felt very "siloed". I would have liked an opportunity to socialise with interns from other departments.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My placement was in London. Therefore I expected the cost of living and socialising to be quite high.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • If you like house music, you're going to have a great time.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Very few. In London, there weren't any opportunities to get involved in sport.
